Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. I also take Metformin and Provera.
My cycles are very irregular, so I take the Provera, which acts like progesteron to induce a menstrual cycle. I take Provera for 5 days and then 3-4 days later, I have a period. Works everytime.
I'm also taking Metformin. It helps to fight insulin resistance and has helped me lose weight. I've known women who were able to get pregnant with Metformin.
The side effects from Metformin are intense, but after about a week I felt fine and then the weight started to come off. Again, this weight loss came off with medication, diet and exercise.
I hope this was helpful. Please feel free to keep in touch and share your progress.
My doctor also put me on Provera to induce a menstrual cycle. I was diagnosed with PCOS at the end of May. I have had issues with my period since the first period I had ever gotten. I would miss a period for two consecutive months and then be regular for two months. It was horrible...never knew if it was going to change. I went to the doctor when I was 14 and they told me that because I was so active with sports that it was the reason my period cycles were always off....so I never thought anything of it. After I graduated from high school....I then decided to start taking birth control. The birth control pill worked every month for me getting a period! I was on the pill for about 6 years. Within those 6 years, I met my husband...we got married...and bought our first home. The only thing missing was a child. So I went off the pill and missed 8 periods....I went to my doctor and then finally he told me that I had PCOS. He prescribed me Provera to induce a menstrual cycle since I hadn't had one for 8 months. I took that for 10 days and I had a period about 4 days later. I took the Provera for about 2 cycles and now he has me on Clomid to try and make me ovulate so that my husband and I can finally try and start a family. The only thing that I can tell you about the Provera is that I felt really emotional while on the medication. I cried for no reason but the doctor wasn't too concerned about it! Best wishes to you!
