Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. Chances are you aren't ovulating, but its not the end of the world. There are many drugs that work great to help women with PCOS ovulate. You still have eggs in your ovaries (even with PCOS) you're hormones are just so out of whack that they never tell your body to actually ovulate. So you've probably got a great egg reserve, it's just getting them to come out of the ovary (ovulation) that is the problem.
And yes, you can have babies even with PCOS. I have PCOS and am currently pregnant with twins with the help of fertility drugs.
I guess it's nice to know that people with pcos have babies.
As Kristen said, many drugs are avaliable now to help with PCOS and having children.
When you can, probably sooner rather then later, purely for your own health and peace of mind, you should see a doctor,
all the best! :)
After that, my periods came every few months for a day or so, then eventually stopped altogether.
So I went back to the doctor. They ran cat scans. They made me drink this disgusting liquid called barium sulfate that looked like milk and tasted like water down orange juice.
those were clean. they gave me a glucose test (and diagnosed me with insulin resistance)
They ran another xray of my ovaries. Clean. They've tested all my hormones several times over the years. It's normal, "but on the high side of normal"
My thyroid levels are "high, but normal"
My testosterone levels are "high, but normal."
Quote my doctor, "You have every single symptom of PCOS, but all tests are clear."
I also have acanthosis nigricans. which is blackening of the skin.
I'm currently on metformin and atenelol.
I did have a period my very first day of college, but I think I had that because I was so absolutely terrified.
Then I've had light periods a few times a year since then (3 years ago) They usually start that morning and by the end of the day, they are done.
I went through fertility treatment and still am. I had one pregnancy but miscarried about 3 months ago. I'm trying to be hopeful that I will achieve pregnancy again.
Best of luck to you.
