Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
Sorry to hear about your pain. As you say, it seems a little low for kidney pain. For me, it wouldn't be so unusual to feel pain so low because my liver reaches down so far, but that would be a very long kidney. There's nothing to be done for a ruptured cyst except wait for the pain to subside. It was pain in my hip that led to the MRI scan on which my polycystic kidneys were spotted, but nothing major was found to be wrong with the hip. It could be referred pain(from the kidney) or it could be totally unrelated. I have muscle spasms in my hip from time to time, which are very painful. Heat and massage help somewhat.
I hope this pain subsides quickly and that you can enjoy your holiday without it bothering you too much.

Hope you are doing okay
You did do well with the doctor's appointment! Hope the co-codamol helps with the pain and that it settles down. I have sacro iliac joint pain stemming from postural changes, caused by having a massive belly (huge liver and kidneys). I have read that this is an under recognised symptom in those with very enlarged organs. Of course, sacral joint problems can arise in anyone, for various reasons.
Enjoy your holiday.

Ooh, that makes sense. I guess the pain was in the nerve. Two boys at my sons' school have shingles at the moment. That's something you could do without. Have you been given meds? If you start them early it can really help. I believe Nortriptyline and Amitriptyline are given in low doses. These work on nerve pain. I've tried both for pain; one knocked me out completely, the other made me VERY emotional, but did help with my back pain. I stopped taking it but the beneficial effect persisted for a while. I'm now back to square one with no meds, but have been offered morphine if I feel I need it. At the moment, I concentrate on avoiding everything that aggravates or causes the pain.
Hope you're well again soon, Dixie.
