Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
I have big PKD liver and LKD kidneys. I suffer fromvarious manifestations of the such as hernia, intesting bleeding, constant cyst bleeding and possible cancerous tumorours. My bilateral mephrectomy is scheduled for 2nd November and will be open surgery which a triangular shape cut into my abdomen- not discussed anything more graphic than this yet. My fistual line is not yet mature and if not mature in time for op then line will be put in neck.
My question is really about what other surgery then can fix at this time. I do not want to appear greedy but my hernia needs correcting - I don't know whether they would be able to loacate intestinal bleeding to stop this, and excess skin- what will happen. As it's open surgenty I thought they might cut some off and tighten up or is this not an option. Has anyone been in this position of open nephrectomy and where there other procedures they could carry out. Obviously all the symptoms I have are due to PKD. I don't want to dound unappreciative asking for such a lotm

if you are planning a kidney transplant I would think any plastic surgery such as tummy tuck should wait until after that is done.
As for a tummy tuck, I did not have one and I was sure I would have a lot of loose skin. My sister has the "elephant skin" from her pregnancies and so does did my mom but I am lucky enough that despite the huge size of my abdomen, it shrunk right back to normal with no loose skin. I'll hope for the same for you. (although I have a huge scare running down my abdomen, so it doesn't matter much--I'm still not bikini material!)
