slowed heart rate

I have to switch blood pressure medications because I am trying to conceive. I was on lasartaan but now on labetelol The labetelol is not as affective as my blood pressure is still on the higher side than my doctors would like to see it and it has slowed my heart rate down so they are afraid to increase it as my heart rate will be too slow. SO now I have to also take nifedipine. Has anyone else had problems with their heart rate being low on certain bp medications?

I take losartan also, which I assume that is you were referring to, unless they're two different things. Does it cause some kind of conflict with trying to conceive? I haven't noticed any problems with my heart rate while taking my bp medication though. Neither with the one I used to take before this.

Losartan is very dangerous for fetus. It can cause birth defects or a miscarriage. That is why I had to switch to labetelol, because labetelol does not affect the fetus. The only problem is it does not work as well and seems to lower my heart rate. When I am are Losartan I do not seem to have any side affects and it works very well for me.

I have read that Methyldopa is the BP drug of choice during pregnancy, and has a good record for both safety and effectiveness. It works un a different way from Labetelol so may be better for you. This link explains quite well.

The other thing to consider is whether you are doing all you can with diet and exercise to keep your BP down. I managed to keep off BP meds for years by strictly eliminating sodium from my diet and still keep to this diet. My kidney function is at 30% and I still only take a tiny dose of Losartan.
