Screening for Aneurysms

Hi there , 



I am 29 years old who inherited this disease from my dads' side of the family. 


Just recently I visited the neuro for a twitch I was having, and although he ruled the twitch out as a minor event, He asked me if I have ever screened myself for an aneurysm?


Well I have not, no-one in my family has a history and my dad is 58 years old, with one transplant. 


Now that he has told me about this, this is all I think about, all day at work, at home and have completely spoiled my piece of mind.


My question to you guys is: have any of you just gone for a scan, with no family history of aneurysms? or No symptoms? or is my dos just trying to make money of a MRI?

I have been screened. We do have an increased chance of having an aneurysm and me and my doctor both felt it was better to be safe then sorry.

I've had an MRI done as well a while back. It was alright.

It is important. I must have inherited my PKD from my father--I don't know because he died from an aneurysm at age 32, before any formal PKD diagnosis. But no one else on my mother's side has it. So, yes, I was screened (and was clear), and I am glad you are as well!

My consultant was keen for me to be screened but I declined. I probably should be but can't face it. I have plenty of other things to worry about so this isn't bothering me too much. If having the scan will settle your mind, you should have it. Aneurysms can be clipped if found and any adverse events are then avoided.

Is a scan something that should be repeated every so many years?
