yes absolutely, i work out about 3 times per at the gym. i jog the indoor track, use the eliptical machine and lift weights. i also work 50 hours per week doing construction which involves heavy lifting. btw im 49 years old and my gfr is 7 but i still feel pretty good. my neph wants me to have surgery to get a pd cathiter put in because of my low gfr but i told him not yet im not feeling sick yet. exercise is very important with pkd as it keeps u healthy longer and feeling better. good luck and take care.

Running, like any other exercise, is a personal things. For some it's fine, but for others it causes pain and discomfort. It can lead to cyst rupture, with or without pain. I reached a point where even walking in footwear with no cushioning produced significant pain, so runnning, lifting and any strenuous activity is off the agenda dor me. Flank pain is usually from the kidneys, but actual lower back pain is not and may be more of a postural or spinal issue. You could ask your therapist about it if it's not flank pain.

Thanks. I'm going in on Monday for an epidural injection to see if that helps and should them let me know if the pain actually from the Kidneys or now.

My kidney function is at 18%, I was a regular runner and entered many races including marathon's but for the last two year's i have struggled with exercise, I am so tired, on a morning after ive been to sleep I feel like its bed time again! I can't rally myself to do anything, I do have low iron too but the iron tablets ive been issued make me ill so i can't take them, the doctor is just in the process of trying to sort something else out, I'm just hoping i get a match for a transplant so i can run marathon's again and put some life back in to my body,

I used to run a lot as a kid but I'm not really able to anymore because of low back pain and knee pain, but I don't really think it's from the pkd. It might be possible though I suppose. Does anyone else have pain in these areas that has pkd?

I have low back pain because of the strain my huge abdomen puts on my back. I also have knee pain but I can't blame the PKD for that. Knees take a lot of grief over the years and often play up I think.

Thanks chewitt, its getting me down at the minute, Ive just lost my mam on New Years Eve, she had PKD, Its where i got it from, she had five years on dyalisis and never really settled in to it, she was always unwell on it, she had other health issues too, it was COPD that caused her death but PKD was a factor too, she was 75.
