Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.

Hi every body I am new. I am in PKD stage 4 I feel tried alot. I need to know how to get some energy?

Hi Festus,

Welcome to the group. Me too! It goes with stage 4 kidney disease and for me, carrying huge organs around, sleeping badly and dealing with pain. If your are anaemic, treating this might help. Make sure all other possible cause of fatigue have been checked, eg thyroid function. Otherwise, all you can do is eat well and pace yourself. If I do too much one day, I pay for it by being extra tired in the days that follow. Not overdoing things helps keep energy levels a little more stable, though still low.

I am at stage 4 PKD but it goes down to 5 often. When it does I am in so much pain I can hardly stand it. I also would like to know if anyone knows why am I getting other cysts on other parts of my body? I have several on my hands and one on the back of my neck and they are just below the skin. Do they have anything to do with my Kidney cysts?

Are you taking any ibuprofen or Nsaid? A side effect of Nsaids is cyst development. Back in the 90s, well before my PKD diagnosis, my surgeon started calling my annual visits to remove cysts, 'harvest time'. My primary told me to stop taking Nsaids. If you get the long, small print, pharmacologic drug insert it states a possible side effect is cysts. I had them all over. Now, just my kidney and liver
