Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
My doctors are wanting to get me ready for a transplant if my potential donor is a match.
I have PKD (symptomatic for about 28 years) with chronic kidney infection that has lasted for 5+ years. So they would like me to take my last kidney out and make sure they can keep me infection free for 6 weeks before transplant.
I have a doctor appointment tomorrow with the vascular surgeon for fistula placement.
My sister started peritoneal dialysis a couple months ago and is now a big proponent for it. I understand why she likes it, doing it at home, etc... But for temporary dialysis, I'm not sure if that makes sense.
I wanted to get some advice/feelings one way or the other.

You might do better posting this question to the Dialysis group. There are a lot of people with PKD on there. Good luck.
