Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.

Sorry to hear about your problems with this medication. I think swelling is a well known side effect of Norvasc and there are many people on various internet sites complaining about it. When a side effect is having a major impact on you, it is usual to try another drug. Can you ask your doctor to prescribe a different calcium channel blocker of alternative BP medication? If he won't, I would find another doctor. It's common to have some trial and error to find the right drug or combination of drugs to treat BP, and you don't need to put up with such severe side effects.
Sorry about your problems.
Do you have PKD? The reason that I ask, is because calcium channel blockers may lower your blood pressure, but it works against your PKD by allowing your cysts to grow faster and bigger.
The most common blood pressure meds for PKD patients are ARB's, ACE inhibitors or a combination. But, I don't know your full situation and couldn't say what is best for you. I've just been down that road.
I have to take a calcium channel blocker because I have vaso-spasms which have caused two heart attacks and that is all that has worked to prevent more. And as a result, I have lots of big cysts.
If you have both a cardiologist and a nephrologist, have them work together on this issue.
Best wishes!
Larry
It means a lot to not feel alone in this.
