Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
This is just a vent really:
Today I visited my doctor and didn't even find out until checking out that this would be the last time I would see him.
He didn't even tell me! Maybe because he thought I'd be too upset.
The new doctor that's replacing him looks very nice in her picture but you can't always judge people by their smile. I try not to judge people at all really but I'm just nervous because I know how hard it is to find a good doctor and I'm lucky that my old one was so good.
I am limited to only being able to go to this office because it is the only option affordable to me at the moment while I am uninsured and "waiting ever so patiently" for the government to decide I'm sick enough to be disabled. I haven't worked for over 2 years now and I'm thankful to have such a wonderful friend who allows me to stay in their home with my own room AND takes care of me and all of my expenses.
But back to the point...what if this doctor doesn't listen to me? I've had doctors in the past where it seemed they had never heard what PKD even was and it was so frustrating. "You don't have any kidney stones so I don't know what would be causing your kidney pain." *eye roll*
I live in Florida and pain pill abuse is like THE thing in this state I swear. It's sad because people with real pain (like me) often get questioned repeatedly (especially at the ER) and written off as just "some other junkie" when asking for pain medication.
My old doctor understood and happily gave them to me because he knows I've been dealing with this for 2 years and have just recently asked for them because I didn't want to have to be dependent on them.
I'm still not, I don't take them every day...but I just don't want a new doctor pre judging me because I'm young and in pain.
All I can do is hope for the best, I suppose.

I think the biggest reason I'm upset is because I really do feel like my doctor is the only person who truly understands what I go through and now I won't see him anymore. It's kind of like a loss. Or maybe I'm just too sensitive these days haha
Ok...I'm going to stop wasting space now. lol

I'm wondering if you're prejudging your new doctor!
It is within the realm of possibility that she may be just as sensitive to you and your situation as your old doctor!
Give her and you a break!!! :-)

You know you are perfectly capable of verbalizing your situation to your new doctor to sensitize her to your needs.
