Oh Norma, I am so very very sorry. Yes, it is bad enough to have the hernia issue but as well the enlarged kidneys. I have that you have to do that again.

I'm so sorry that you have yet another hernia to deal with Norma. I was wandering for a while whether I might have one, but I've turned a blind eye to it for now. My husband says my whole abdomen is one big hernia! It certainly feels like it's al trying to burst out.

I hope the surgery goes smoothly and that you make a speedy reocover. We look forward to hearing from you afterwards.

Sorry to hear that you have another hernia Norma. I didn't realize we were prone to hernias... although I remember my PKD dad wore a hernia belt in the late 50's.

I'll be praying for a smooth time for you Norma. Recovery sure beats the pain of the hernia.

I have a 5 inch incision in my groin, can hardly move!!! Eventually it will heal. What I am more worried about is he measles that has now reached NY and 2 confirmed cases in broome county where we Live! Do they even give old people measles vaccines? I have no clue, does anyone know anything about this? If we ever got this at our age,it would kill us for sure!!! My lord what's happening to this country? My daughter in law refused to get her kids vaccinated but you have to in NY or they can't go to school, thank GOD!!! Anyone know anything about this??

I don't know about the measles, except I am sure that when I was young, we only had polio immunizations. I am sure that all of my siblings and I had the actual measles and mumps. But I did have a shingles shot before I had my transplant. At this point, I can't have a live vaccine.

Help! Pain so bad this morning, I just can't get it under control!!! Am taking percoset every 4 hours around the clock and I don't have any type of relief, not that I would notice anyway. The incision is right smack in the middle of my groin, Jim says it's at least 5 inches! Good grief, does anyone know of anything I can do? I am using ice but that is not helping one bit, am also taking laxative till the cows come home and so far, no relief with thst either! OMG!!! I don't know how much more pain I can take!!!! Had I known this was going to be so bad, I never would have done it! 3 days and counting now! Thanks guys!

sure wish life were easier, there should be rewards for aging, not pain.
be careful with laxatives, the easiest on me is Lactulose which is a prescription given by my nephrologist so not bad for kidneys.

Norma, I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. If you can't bring it under control I think you should call the doctor, especially if your temperature is raised. You might have an infection. I hope things improve very soon,

I once had a 5 inch cyst removed from my ovary and so also know the pain of a 5 inch abdomen incision. It's too damn bad they didn't keep you in for a few days and give you some real pain relief. I suggest you phone the doctor and see if you can up your dose!

I am finally feeling better, a wee bit weak and tired but the pain has finally subsided, I don't know what good all that percoset did other than to constipate me!!!!! I am very concerned about the mesh in my stomach, my kidneys are growing like weeds! I hope that stuff doesn't break or I am going to be in big trouble. I really need to find something to reduce the cyst growth! Odd that my kidney function is still ok, creatinine hovering about 1.6. My new kidney doc says who cares as long as everything is working good enough!! He should be my age and try to walk around looking 9 months pregnant!! I am still holding on that the herbal meds I am taking are really helping me, hope is the word of the month! Oh Heather, I am so sorry you had to have your surgery postponed! Good grief! We have more problems!! Couldn't you go out of the area to get it done? I know you are probably suffering something terrible! Could that be an option for you? Let us know ok? Norma I'd check with your doctor or go to the ER. Maybe they would let you have something stronger so you can have some relief.

Is it supposed to be that painful? I don't know anything about hernias but I feel so bad for you.

As for measles, again, ask your doctor. When my kids were younger I had the MMR shot myself because I had measles when I was younger but never mumps. My kidneys were functioning almost normally then so I know nothing about vaccinations with compromised kidneys.

I don't know why parents don't immunize their kids. It's the law here in British Columbia too but a lot of people home school so get away with it because of that. I guess at first it was because they said the shot causes Autism. Now they've proved it doesn't (not that I believed it did in the first place). Measles can be VERY serious. I had a great grandmother who lost all 3 of her children who were under the age of 6 in 5 weeks because of measles (in the 1800's). I cried for her.
