I'm sorry to hear that you have a kidney stone. PKD makes stones more likely, with a quarter of sufferers experiencing them. The treatment is apparently the same whether or not you have PKD. I have read conflicting information regarding whether PKD makes treatment more difficult. I guess it depends on how cystic your kidneys are. Mine are so massive I imagine it would be hard to find a way to reach a stone surgically and I'm not sure how lithotripsy would work. Hopefully your treatment will be staightforward.

Well mine seem pretty much covered in cysts but what concerned me is the urologist at the hospital where I was admitted said my nephrologist at a different hospital didn't need to know or be consulted about it which seems a bit odd, I have rung my nephrologist anyway and left a message with his secretary, but haven't heard anything back yet.
Thanks to all the morphine I have constipation which is miserable, but had some really bad bladder pain today so not sure if this stone is moving or not.
I have read different stuff about lithotripsy in PKD too and about how it's quite hard on kidneys and can cause bruising and bleeding, which doesn't sound good, I am a bit protective of my kids lol.
Had more bloods today as last week my gfr was down and creatine was up hopefully they have gone back to their normal levels

Urologists do deal with the surgical aspects of kidney care, as well as lithotripsy, but I would have thought that there would at least be communication with the nephrologist, as the neph is responsible for ongoing care. You should have been prescribed a laxative with the morphine and I would strongly advise going to see you GP for a prescription asap. You may also need an anti-emetic because it can cause nausea. I was given both with morphine and opiods. I'm sorry you're suffering so much. You will get through this. Keep in touch,

I have kidney stones, supposedly a side effect of PKD. Had the lithotripsy done in Thailand because the U.S. med system I use was booked out 12-18 months for lithotripsy because of huge increase in kidney stones here due to use of NSaids like Aleve, Ibuprofen. Had a 8 mm stone lodged that the lithotripsy broke up but had to be surgically removed (laproscopic) 2 days later. The laproscopic surgery is a breeze, no down time really and major relief. The lithotripsy was painful because of my numerous stones and probably because the lithotripsy machine in Thailand was not state of the art but it did the trick and I was stone free for 2 years after while I adhered to a strict diet. Avoid green peppers, spinach, almonds, peanut butter, chocolate...there is a whole list of food...drink lemonade or water with lemon - acidic - as it prevents stone formation and is supposed to aid in getting rid of them. My neph was not too concerned about the stones. Whether the lithotripsy harms the kidneys I do not know. My sympathy to you on dealing with kidney stones. Know it is just a technical difficulty that you can get through by dietary changes so you do not have them in the future!

I have some kidney stones as well, I was told by my doctor to do things like eating fruit with citrus in it or something I believe in order to dissolve the kidney stones. I recently started to squeeze lemons into water and drink that sometimes. I'm curious as to what else could be helpful, I'd lose to reduce my amount of kidney stones as much as possible in order to prevent any issues.
