Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
I am at 17% kidney function and have had a lot of problems with my potassium being extremely high the past two weeks. They sent me to the hospital to get it to go down. Has anybody else had this problem? And is it too soon to ask about getting a transplant? I want to try to skip dialysis if that is at all possible. Thanks
wondering if you are following a low potassium diet, that is often enough to keep it under control.
it is not too early to ask about getting a transplant, in fact you could have done it awhile ago. I'm surprised your doctors didn't talk about it. at this stage you would probably need a living donor to avoid dialysis and it may be late for all the testing before you would need dialysis.
btw, nobody wants dialysis, be prepared for whatever is necessary.
