I used to get infections like these before nephrectomy but even after transplant.
I can't take sulfa and ended up in hospital for several days on IV antibiotics.
they can be very dangerous, get to the ER if your sulfa doesn't work.

Its 6:18 in morning.....feeling lil better...but feel like that headache is creeping back....thanks for advice

I don't know a thing about this, just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and hope you feel better. One thing I do know is not to let this linger very long, contact your doc if it persists.

Sweetheart call your nephrologist right away. Out-of-the-blue painful and non-stopping headaches can be concerning in those of us with PKD. Your doc may want you to have a brain MRI. I have been through this and am happy to message with you about my personal experience. Better safe than sorry love, call the doctor please!!

Yes, you probably need to call your doctor. I really don't know what to say (other than I sure do understand) because there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the ways that these kidneys react. I never know if I have an infection, or just pain for no reason.... but you DO know you have an infection... and now you need to know for sure if you need to change the antibiotic.

You guys are all so sweet....Sometimes I feel alone in this PKD journey and its always nice to have a circle of friends like you...Went to work today for awhile and probably shouldn't have..I get an ultrasound tomorrow morning....Pretty swollen tonight ...Just hoping that nasty headache stays gone..Thanks for the help and advice :)

I don't have much advice I'm afraid, but wanted to wish you well. It can take a while for anti biotics to work, especially on kidney infections. If the infection is in the cysts, they can be difficult to penetrate. You should probably rest rather than dragging yourself in to work, too.

Just fair warming, (if it is not too late). Every time I have had an ultrasound, or any other type of abdominal scan, the technician kind of freaks out. "Oh my gosh, I have never seen anything like this, your whole abdomen is full of cysts!" You know, brace yourself... they just don't know better.

Agree Heather, I have heard that as well, but usually from inexperienced techs!

Heather, Norma and the rest, there are laws (HPPA or something) about what techs can say and they should just keep their mouths shut.
I once heard an ultrasound tech say, under his breath, I could do my homework on this (guess he was still a student of something). at least he was discreet enough to just mumble it.

Yes, true Spiderwoman. My husband recently had an MRI, which his surgeon requested, after being in the auto accident with me, about a month after his shoulder surgery. The technician told him that it looked like everything was no longer connected.... husband told his surgeon, and who used some very colorful language about that tech.... As it turned out, my husband is ok... :P

Haven't experienced what you are going through, but hope you get answers and feel better soon. I would say anytime you have something you don't understand it's probably best to phone your nephrologist just to be safe. :)
