Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
About the uterine cysts.... I can't remember if I had fibroids or what, but at the time my doctor gave me a partial hysterectomy because of it..... Shortly after he ended up in prison..... so I never went back to a gyn after that. (you don't want to know the story, believe me). My daughter and I both have had some serious ovarian cysts. I know I have cysts everywhere so I just would not be surprised if they are also on the uterus. I look forward to hearing what others have to say. Hang in there Ruth, we are all in this together.
Blessings!!!!
Heather
I've never heard of uterine cysts but that doesn't mean a person who can develop cysts on just about every other organ can't get them there too.
Norma, don't ever feel you can't bring a problem or question here. we are all human and have our "moments" when things just don't go right.
glad your son is doing better. I had a stint after my transplant, probably unnecessary since I peed all through dialysis, and removal was unpleasant, possibly more so for a man, but not horrible. it took but a second and there was no lingering discomfort.
So glad to hear your son is recovering. What a scary time in your life! I will echo what the others have said, and say that you are never a burden to us, and we are always interested in what you have to say or vent about.
I unfortunately have no clue as to what the inutero cysts are all about. I sure wish I did. All I know is that the older I get the more it seems my body is falling apart, and I am relatively young. :-). I hope you can get more answers and fill us in as you know more.
God Bless,
K~
I'm so glad to hear Jimmy is doing better. That Dilaudid is very effective once you get over the warm blanket feeling. And he'll survive the stent removal; if he can get trhough this whole stone process, the stent removal will be a minimal procedure by comparison (remind him to ask for pre-medication to take before the procedure and maybe to some extra pain medication to take as well (he probably has some). He doesn't need to be a hero; he's a human being who's been through hell and doesn't need to experience any more pain!
Conceivably we can develop cysts anywhere, so why not the uterus as well. I found a couple of literature references to uterine cysts as an extra-renal complication, but they're not very common. Most of the references to uterine cysts refer to nabolthian cysts, which arise from the cervix, but in this case, appear in the uterus instead of in the vaginal canal or on the cervix. I would definitely follow through on the ultrasound and the CA-125 test just to be sure there's nothing else going on. Hope this helps!
Lots of hugs,
Ruth
I recently was told I have blood filled cysts on my cervix. I have to go back for a follow-up (good reminder to make that appointment!). I do wonder if it is connected to my PKD although my nephro told me it isn't related.
Glad your son is doing better!
lots of love,
Norma...
No polyps and cysts are totally different. Polyps are made of tissue and only Lord knows what else, cysts are usually filled with something?? Fluid of some sort, blood, etc. It wouldn't hurt to ask some questions thought, I plan on being first in line and will let all you girls know what I find out. I do love your name, Love!
lots of love,
Norma...
I hope your doctor had the polyp biopsied. I've had a ganglion cyst removed from my pinky finger joint (bad place for a cyst) and while my surgeon, very confident it was a simple ganglion cyst, insisted on getting it biopsied just to be sure (and it was a perfectly benign ganglion cyst). Obviously the inginal (groin) lymph node biopsies they did were intended for biopsy; they also came back benign, with one showing signs of a past infection, but nothign of concern.
Basically anytime you have something removed (other than plain fluid from a simple kidney or liver cyst versus a suspected infected cyst), you want it to be biopsied just to rule out the possibility of it being a problem or an indicator of a problem.
BTW, your doctor may also have used the term "polyp" to mean a nabolthian cyst (which are very common, especially to have a small one on the cervix, visible during a regular exam), which when small and on the cervix only, can appear a bit more like polyps than traditional, fluid filled cysts.
Get a copy of the lab report, just for your peace of mind. It's very important that we never assume that silence is golden and that no phone call means nothing is wrong. Instead that silence may be the doctor hasn't received or read the report yet or it was just filed in your records without review. You ALWAYS want a phone call and preferrably your very own copy of every lab, biopsy and radiology reports so you can understand for yourself exactly what the results are!
Lots of hugs,
Ruth
