Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.

Anyone able to tell me the recovery time for deroofing both kidneys? I am scheduled for 12/20/11 at Mayo.

I asked your question to this group a few days ago and a Marie Ursitti responded. She had her (grapefruit size) kidney cysts deroofed and cauterized by Dr. Nagorney at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He told her kidney cysts that are cauterized will not grow back.

If I am ever in acute, unrelenting pain from a kidney cyst, I would consult with Dr. Nagorney. Is the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where you are going? I forget what her recovery time was. Maybe you could ask her. Keep us updated.

WOW I didn't know they would do that do they have to be a certain size? i would like to know how you are doing keep us informed!!!

Insurance issues has pushed back the surgery until I can find a new urologist to do the surgery. I have a consultation on 12/19/11.
