Hello. A cystoscopy is a pretty simple matter, I've had it done twice and the first time I was wide awake. It's not really painful,just a little uncomfortable when they insert the equipment. (it's like having a catheter placed). The bilateral something or other is probably a bilateral uretogram where they shoot a little dye into your ureters and check for inflammation, blockage etc. I've had that done too. It's important for them not to put any dye into your kidneys. The dye is very toxic to your kidney's and can cause a lot of problems. I'm not sure why they are going to try and apsirate a cyst to see if there's any bacteria. How do they know that the cyst they are going to enter is the one that's infected? Have they had you on IV antibiotics for your infections? That's the best option for PKD patients who have resistent infections that aren't cured through oral medicine. You may want to get a second opinion. The only reason I had the test done was because I had a bad kidney bleed that wouldn't stop and they went in to remove blood clots. I've had kidney infections that did not clear up on oral antibiotics and have been admitted to the hospital on IV antibiotics which has worked. However, now-a-days you can have the IV antibiotics administered at home.
If you end up having the procedure, you shouldn't experience any residual pain afterwords unless they rupture a cyst or something, while they're in there. Uriologists are always quick to want to do some surgical procedure or another, that's what they live for. Like I said, I'd probably get a second opionion from another nephrologist and/or uriologist.

Yeah, I actually did call my nephrologist on that and he called the urologist himself and told them not to do that sample thing. I guess they wanted to drain a cyst?

They weren't very clear with me over the phone when they talked to me so I was worried about it and my neph made the calls.

So, I'm just having the cystoscopy and the uretogram and my neph said we'll just wait and see if I get another kidney infection before they decide anything on that.

It eased my mind more and so did your reply and from talking to a few co-workers who had the procedure done.

My nephrologist also assured me that unless they rupture a cyst I shouldn't have pain just maybe slight discomfort but there is a risk that may happen just like there's a risk that it can happen anytime.
