Severe dehydration (e.g. diuretics for BP control) can increase creatinine levels as well. Maybe your new BP medication contains diuretics as well.

I was asking if that is a good thing or a bad thing, about your levels being raised.

We want to keep our creatinine levels down. They rise as kidney function declines.

Shedoctor is right, dehydration will result in higher creatine levels, and diuretics could cause this. What BP meds have you been prescribed?

My levels have always been under 1 but this year they have raised to 1 and my doctor's think it is because of pregnancy as it can be harsh on the organs. I have been getting a lot more blood work done to watch the levels. Hopefully you can figure out why your levels raised so quickly!

Hope they are able to get your levels back down. If you want a really good place to go for this kind of stuff you could go to the hospital in Iowa City. The doctors there are amazing and take really good care of their patients.

I recently returned from my trip to the Mayo. We spent a week going to various appointments. The place is indescribable. The care that I received was top notch.If I was closer to Mn, they would definitely be my nephrology team. I don't believe that I have ever had any Dr.'s spend that much time going over treatment. They changed a couple of my BP medications. The one that I had to be weaned off of was a rebound med and they couldn't understand why I was ever prescribed it. A big issue that they stressed with me was my potassium levels. As they described to me, high potassium levels over a extended period of time will send you to dialysis quicker than any other #. My creatinine levels have been fluctuating from the high 3's to low 4's I started my screening yesterday in Pittsburgh to go on the transplant list.

Chewitt, thank you very much. Quick question. I see that you are on the forum quite a bit and are very knowledgeable, are you a MD?

No Tkski, I'm nit a doctor but worked in a profession allied to medicine in a previous life and tend to gather information. If there's something I don't know, I can't stop myself from researching it! I've had to find out about PKD because my GP knows nothing and the consultants I've seen over the years have a habit of contradicting each other. I've also been a member of Daily Strength for many years and have learned a thing or two on here over that time.

That is awesome. Thank you for your dedication. Isn't that the truth about the GP. Mine put me on one of the worst rebound BP meds there is out there. I had a terrible experience with it. Not sure if you saw my comments on my Mayo visit but those nephrologist's up there are amazing. I was told at the minimum 3 Dr's reviewed my chart. There they all confer with each other on agreeable treatment. It was an experience that was beyond any that I have ever had. Everything from a completely different philosophy on checking BP to focusing a LOT of time on potassium #'s.

Always happy to try to be of help if I can and glad to have this group for support, too. We need to be our own advocates in this game as in my experience doctors often can't be relied upon.

Tkski, I was wondering how you are doing since your mayo clinic visit. Are your creatinine levels down now? What did the doctors say about checking your BP and your potassium numbers? My kidney dr isn"t very good at discussing things unless I ask a question about something. I learn much more from this site than from him.
