Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Thanks for the very necessary warning, Ilene xxx
I remember being totally unaware of the possiibility of physical harm. Even tho I couldn't quite put my finger on things, I never felt totally safe in any way. Now that I am out and have been in therapy for a while, I have had to admit that my kids and I were physically abused. But because of the isolation, the fear, and the shock of it happening (some of it very subtle), I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
We never ever want to think that the person who says they love us would be capable of such horrific actions, but it happens more than we realize.
MyTrueColors, your words hit home with me, I needed to read them today. I am in an abusive relationship and he has turned everything around now to where he is so nice and loving towards me (so much so it bothers me). I too feel safe at home, I live way out in a rural around with not many people around, but for some reason I feel safe there. Everyone else worries about me, but I tell as long as he doesn't drink he won't hurt me. I too feel I can't wrap my head around what has happened. i think about the last episode and it turns my stomach but then I can turn off the thoughts and act like nothing ever happened.
Hearing about this woman puts some fear in me and makes me think maybe I am not really safe.
