I have recently had a person that has known my family for years and me ask me out to dinner for my birthday and I declined. He is not a bad person that I know of, but I am just too afraid to date anymore after all I have been through. I also have a man that I met through a friend on facebook ask me a few times out to a movie, to dinner and to baseball games. I have declined. I will only engage with him via text messaging which I had to really think about that much. When he asks if he may call me, I put my wall up and say text only.
I have deactivated my facebook account due to not being able to handle too much interaction and any sort of drama or negativity. I have become even more isolated and other than a good friend of mine who calls me daily (female) and posting on here from time to time, and of course work 6 days a week, I basically have no social life.
I have to wonder if I am just becoming worse? If I will never get over the issues I have?
Thanks for listening and for anyone that can take chances on dating or friendships, I admire you.

I am sorry you feel this way. I can't remember, are you getting counseling? If not, it may be very helpful to get you past this period in your life. I am not there yet, but I think it is normal to feel the way you do, however I also think that if you are not seeking counseling to learn coping behaviors and help you get past this it would be a good idea to do so if you are able.

Wish I could offer better advice. I with you the best!!! Sending you lots of encouragement and strength to get through this.

You still make my heart hurt. I am so very sorry you are going through this---still. I would do anything if someway I could help you, but I can't. I hope you are not worse, the only one that can help you right now is you.
I am sending positive energy your way in hopes you will feel more like socializing, and taking better care of yourself in the future.

I appreciate the advice and support. I have not been to therapy for two weeks due to my Co worker being on vacation. I will have to schedule to get back on the list again now but I honestly was having problems talking about what the "real "issues were anyway so not sure where I am at with going back? It's just like I have barely the energy to get out of bed, go to work, then I get home and just want to go back to bed. Just existing I suppose.

Hey! I just wanted to say that I think it's normal to have fears and walls after being treated so bad! It's obviously hurting you, so something needs to change, and a therapist will be best to help you make the changes you need. But your pain and fear are valid feelings.

I can understand if you are not feeling good mentally, not wanting to go out with a man. Or perhaps you don't want to get involved in another relationship? There is nothing wrong with that. But isolating is also cause for concern. I know that I do that as a symptom of depression. Hugs Jonie.

Hi Elena, thanks for your reply. I had a checkup Doctor appmt today so I told him I was isolating and having issues with irritability and crying. He seemed to think I had both depression and anxiety. I had just told him about my work stress and my stress with my younger brothers cancer, not even the abuse. He put me on Celexa. Hoping it helps.
