Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

Just a quick Hi and some word of encouragement: Things can and will get better and I am walking proof. Last year at this time I was living with an abuser in Upstate NY to scared to go out of my house or argue with him. Now, back home in the sunny Southwest, with kids, family and friends. Have been away from abuser since last April. Going to counseling every week and learning about why and what........Have started a business and it's going well. I guess I was tired of being sick and tired. Yes, I have broken NC many times but I know about boundaries now and that helps.

Wishing all my DS friends peace, love and happiness. This has been some year, we are all getting better and YES we can do this. We are doing this.

You are such a sweetheart, Andrea.
You make leaving sound so easy. I know how horribly hard it was for you and how strong and brave you were to get away.
100 Congratulations, now you are with family and friends and in the warm sun. Doesn't get any better than that.

I told my counselor a while ago that this is the hardest thing I have ever been through. Including ending a 27 year marriage and a second marriage to a wonderful husband who died at age 53. When an abuser get's you the world becomes totally crazy. I just couldn't see anything but a big gray cloud for 5 years. I think when he pushed me in the hallway was when I started making my plan to escape. My life is not any bed of roses but getting better every day. The support from ya all has been amazing.

All the best to you too, Andrea, and to all of us. May we all find at least a corner of peace and joy, a pleasant memory to treasure - no matter where we are in our journeys away from abuse. Whether that journey sees abuse being a speck in the rear view mirror, or whether recently out, fighting to get out, or fighting to have the hope within the relationship become a reality. Any way that we can become abuse free is just awesome.

For those still in really difficult situations ... just keep taking one step at a time, remember that it IS hard, and no matter what they do, repeat the mantra to yourself as often as you need: "It is not my fault, it's not about me, it's not my failure".

Andrea, I am so happy for you! You are an amazing woman. I am wishing I had the strength that you do, but I will get better in my own way in my own time.... I hope. If I don't I think I know my plan will be to go to another state where I have my sister and family and just start over.... you are inspirational!

Andrea, you're an inspiration! Since coming to DS I have learned SO much about my abusive husband and things about myself as well. I'm working on my plan to leave. The strength, encouragement, and support I've received here is amazing and I'd be lost without it.
