Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I've started a list, every day I think of something I like about myself, and those feelings grow. It's something I learned in a book, "Learning to love yourself". I've been doing it faithfully for over a year (I already do a daily journal so it's easy for me). It's funny how I could think of a hundred things I don't like about myself, but one I do? Every day? It gets easier and builds me up and I NEED that. I need to feel good about myself in order to be out there participating in life and seeking out other people who can be a good influence on me and me on them.
I put them all in a list w/ the date on 3x5 cards after I entered them in my journal. And when I reached one year I read the one from the cards from the same date last year, to be reminded of something I like about myself. Something different each day. And I continue my list because I need that. I'm too hard on myself and it is up to me to change that.
