Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
It put the things an abuser does in a way that was very clear and consise..And I could relate to a lot of it...
Especially the part where it says....
Disturbingly, the abuser believes the victim
is to blame for the harmful behavior. For example, "If she would come home on time, I wouldn't suspect her of having an affair."
In the abusers eyes the victim becomes the
cause of the controlling behavior as well as
the feelings of shame and contempt. To
punish the victim for causing this mess, the abuser verbally lashes out againat the victim.
Soon this becomes a vicious cycle.'
I could also really relate to the part where it says...
'The victim gives power to the
silent one by pleading for the silence to
end. The silence might disappear as quickly
as it came. There may or may not be an
explanationit probably wouldnt make sense anyway.
Living with someone who uses silence is like
walking on eggshells. The tension in the
home and relationship becomes unbearable.'
I did my share of of the pitiful futile pleading..For too many years.
I just wish sometimes that I had known what my ex was up to, and that it was all about 'control' when I was 'with' him..As I also sometimes think I that might have then decided to have left him sooner??...Though who knows?..
At least I'm still grateful now, that I do know now.
