Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

I encourage you to ask around and 'interview' potential therapists. There isn't a 'one size fits all' treatment for abuse/trauma, so if one doesn't seem to be working, please don't give up hope.
I personally can identify with what you are going through with your child. My daughter has a mental health disability, schizoaffective disorder. I have had her placed in a residential treatment facility in the past when I was unable to keep her safe in our home. I have an idea of how stressful that is, and admire that you are putting the needs of your son above your own, because I am sure you would rather have him with you. It's a very difficult, guilt laden decision, but you can't run yourself into the ground trying to care for him without the proper resources to do it. Are there support groups in your area for whatever condition your son has? Schizophrenia caregiver support groups really helped me, and still do.
As far as recovery from abuse, it takes time, please be aware it is a process, and will have ups, downs, set backs, progress, and it can't be rushed, it is what it is. Please be kind to yourself and have the expectation that you will have a lot of emotions, but you can and will get through this to a better place. Practice self care, this is vitally important for everything you are going through.
I agree, counseling will speed up the recovery process immensely, reach out for that help with a qualified therapist. And we are always here for any venting, when in need of strength, to get validation, whatever you need.
