I understand the breakup was traumatic.
Vince Vaughn was a jerk, and Jennifer was
walking on eggshells and trying to be... Jennifer.
So sorry that you felt this experience. Hollywood has
a way of taking abusive relationships and glamourizing

Thank you for your support. I am settling down now. Not sure why it affected me so badly, it wasn't real after all but the put Downs, the manipulation on both parts, the taking sides by the friends, the heavy tension and in your face arguments ..just too harsh.

Joanie, this film is an attempt at making funny, a situation many of us here have real life experience of. It's not a funny situation. You are not too sensitive. I'm glad you came on here for support rather than contact your ex, your crying is only temporary whilst you keep up no contact, I promise. It gets easier, one day you will go 5 minutes without thinking of him, another day it might be 10 minutes, another it might even be 20! The truth is, it's hard to leave an abusive relationship but, if you keep up no contact, work hard on yourself, invest in your best asset (you), then eventually, you will be free. Stay on here, post everything you need to post, use the chat option and chat, there's always someone on, read other people's posts, maybe you can help, take really good care of yourself, treat yourself. When I first went no contact, I didn't know what to do,I didn't realise that I had so much good help, advice and support here on this board. I found a therapist, and decided that I would busy myself doing everything that was advised to me, that I knew I could do. All that worked for me, I'm 8 months out and feel better than I did when I entered the relationship. Work on yourself, and take excellent care of yourself.

I agree, that movie was a downer.

So sad that people can't be kind and giving and are always thinking... "am I getting a fair deal"

I thought the Jennifer Aniston character was smart to realize the Vince Vaughn character was who he was and it just wouldn't work for her.

I liked the part at the end when you could tell they didn't hold any hard feelings toward each other.

I don't feel this was a movie about an abusive relationship.

Thank you Beansprout. I didn't contact last night but it was the closest I have come in a while. I think even though the couple was so miserable, the fact that they had any type of relationship made me feel that much more alone. I feel weekends are hardest for me as I tend to obsess more over what everyone else is doing (as a couple) including the ex (who may or may not have an old or new someone in his life.) While I take this time to be alone and work on me. I have lots of backsliding on self care but I suppose at least I am not bringing someone else into my misery. If that makes sense? I know I am not whole enough to love or be healthy for someone but it is so very hard and lonely and I do want to be special to someone. :( Just gets hard to be strong alone ya know?

I know, but I also know that you have taken the hardest step you will ever need to take, you left. You found strength within you and freed yourself from the immediate danger. What you have to do now is take excellent, no holds barred, care of yourself. I found that eating at least one meal a day, even though I didn't want to eat, Ahmed everything seem a whole lot better. Also, a shower, brush your teeth, maybe curl your hair or have it styled. You don't need to be miserable. Easier said than done, I know, but if you find activities you enjoy doing, reading, exercise, baking, whatever, you won't feel so isolated or alone. Also, if you have the opportunity to join an education class, you might meet people, new friends there. I actually met a new friend at the local women's shelter. I never lived there, but joined a class that was held there and so did she. We don't see each other every day, but we keep in touch and sometimes go for coffee. Find things to do, even if you don't want to leve the house, make yourself, do it. You are stronger than you think. Even over the past few days, your posts are changing a wee bit, you can see your strength coming through.

Movies like that conjur up a lot of traumatic memories. Those memories have a way of recreating the same pain and loneliness you experienced during your relationship.
