Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
This book will explain what you are going through!
I responded to another poster with this same information but wow you both should read this book.
That nails it exactly and sounds very familiar to my relationship with my cousin.
That insistence on only her views being valid or mattering, is imo a form of bullying and is very oppressive. Not allowing for a difference of opinion, is imo arrogant and again a form of bullying.
Since your kids are adults there really isn't much you can to to stop your sister from communicating with them and "badgering' them with her views, but you can let them know they do have a choice. They don't have to interact with her or to agree with her and reassure them that if they chose not to that doesn't make them bad nieces, that you won't think less of them for stopping communication with her if they chose to do that. They are entitled to their own opinions as are you.
"Ironically, our parents were in the ministry .. but very confused; tragically twisting matters of faith childishly. Mental illness resulted"
I'm really not sure that i would call twisting a person's faith or religion as "childish". If that twisting included, demeaning or mocking others or you for not having the same beliefs or for not allowing their beliefs to manipulate you through guilt, I would consider their twisting as abuse. And I think that abuse can cause or at the very least majorly contribute to mental illness. It's not someone's beliefs that makes them abusers, it's their behavior that is the qualifier.
