Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
So we sold out the show tonight (150 seats) and the local theatre community is pretty insular. I went out and did my best - but I don't wear my glasses as I perform, so I'm essentially blind out there. I thought I recognized an older lady sitting in the front row - I thought "That could be one of three people - each of whom may have very different reactions to bumping into me."
Well, after the show, I went out to greet, and sure enough, I knew her. I walked up, and she held her arms open wide, and she said:
"It's so good to see you! Your beard grew in a lot darker than I remembered! I'm terrible at reading programs, so I spent most of the first act wondering if it was you or not! I mean, you've lost weight, and the beard... but then I heard you singng, and I knew it was my old friend.I've got to say - it was good to see you! I was glad to hear you sing - of course you can sing, you've always known that - but you seemed more...
You've always acted a bit like "I know everyone else thinks I'm good, but I don't know that - I - think I'm good", if you know what I mean? But here, in this cast... it wasn't there. You seemed a lot more self-assured. And I was really happy to see that from you."
It boggled my mind. But it was decidedly positive, and a real shot in the arm, and I wanted to share it here, with you all.
