Just saw this video on TED.com - How Movies Teach Manhood. The video features Colin Stokes talking about how we need to raise our boys to respect women and look up to them as heroes, rather than looking at them as the prize to be won after fighting the bad guys alone. It's under 13 minutes and worth a look!

Wish the abusers would take this to heart. I still think it's a choice. My ex-husband is the epitome of his mom who can be very awful yet meanwhile, his brother is nothing like that.

I think its very important that boys are taught to respect women as they grow up.
I used to see the way my granddad treated my step nan,and it was abysmal,he obviously did not see her as being equal to him,she was more like a slave than a partner to him.
so,i guess that my dad learned his view of women from his own dad.

Yes. Interesting. We (Western World) are quick to point the finger at latin america and give them the "macho culture" stamp. First, we should take a serious look at our culture. We might hesitate next time before pointing the finger. Thank you for sharing!

I believe there is a healthy manhood, a man needs to be a provider, protector, and mate, and walk beside us, not on top of us, not behind us, not ahead of us, but with us in life.
I love my son so much, I hope I am doing all I can to make him into the man that he needs to be.
