You can be positive he is an abuser.
Make a plan, consider your options:
How supportive is your family? How close?
Get and contact the local support agencies to devise an escape plan and a safe place to go.
Can you cancel credit cards, etc that are related to the debt and that he may use.
Close any accounts that he has acess.
Where does your paycheck go-can it be sent elsewhere?
Put cash in a safe place where you can get it and run if needed.
Don't blame yourself.
Get counselling.
Block his number from your phone (there is another place on this site I saw people talking about it).
He may say you have to pay off the debt, but it sounds like he is only going to make it worse. Don't let him scare you or shake your confidence.
Don't go back, even if he promises to take his meds.
Believe in yourself, it will be tough, but you can get through this and be in a better place.

I agree with everything searching said. You may find help to make a plan at your local women's centre. If you stay, it will likely only get worse - probably much worse. You say you are in debt because of him - well paying it off on your own sounds like a better option than getting even further in debt by staying. Talk to a financial counsellor too about what you can do about the debt.

You really need to get out - this guy sounds very dangerous.

Call it happy coiencednce but we're getting evicted out of our place so we're both going home to our persepective parents houses. That puts me in a safe place, my parents hate him and they dont know about the abuse. The new problem is he's got my car and thinks that he should keep control of it. If I argue that then it'll be another fight and fighting means physical. I know that if he does move back with his parents then they'll ensure he's taking his meds. it's a condition of his returning. He keeps talking about us going to arizona. I dont want that at all. I'd have no support there and no way to get out. He's constantly talking how he's my master and I had better do what he wants when he wants it done. I've had it but i know i have to be smart when it comes to getting permantly away. I have family in other areas and states so that if it got bad enough i could go there and he'd never find me again but i dont want that. one my family here, my doctors are here. My sister is having her first child next month, i have to be here for that. he's got access to everything. my bank account, cell account, credit cards and the info to get another. he's already gotten a cash advance loan without my consent or knowledge.

I am so sorry for what you are going through, but I am glad you will be back in your parent's house, a safe place.

Take him to small claims court or magistrate court to get your car back, and file a restraining order against him. Bi-polar or any kind of illness is no excuse for abuse. This is not a guy you want to spend the rest of your life with.

Make sure you secure all of your finances immediately to protect yourself as well. This man is dangerous...even if you have lost money because of him consider it a small price to pay for your freedom. Sending you hugs for better days ahead...

I don't know how old you are or where you live.

But if your folks already don't like him, they
must suspect he's got issues. Tell them
what you've told us.

Ask them to help you get your car back
and sort out the other problems.

As far as your sister's baby, your
safety and wellbeing is the priority
right now. The fact that his hands
ended up around your throat is the
sign of a VERY DANGEROUS PERSON.
