Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

The morning of the first day of a brand new year
(and this year, that day is a Saturday morning.)
possibility abounds.
Yes, yes. . . . I know.
In a few days, the crystal clear horizon of New Year's Day
will be clouded over by the daily busy-ness of weekday routine.
We're going to have to stop at a gas station to fill our car
with fossil fuel that costs more and more, every day.
We're going to have to clean up after dinner.
We're going to have find a way to get a good night's sleep.
We're going to have to deal with the ghosts of our past whispering
in the dark corners of our bedroom.
One day we're going to have to stop pretending
that we don't know what it is we know at the bottom of our soul
but which we spend so much energy trying to ignore.
And then, when the sun rises again, on another cold winter's day
when we have to go outside and shovel the driveway
and scrape the ice off the car windshield,
we're going to look back on all the possibilities
of this New Year's Day morning
and remind ourself what we visioned today.
When that cold winter's day arrives,
after the stop for gas,
the dinner's dishes are dried and put away,
the driveway is shoveled and the windshield
is nearly free of ice. . . . . . .
work as hard as you can to
remember the possibilities of this fine, fearless morning.
For that is the strength and determination
that will enable your spirit to rise,
to fly,
to soar.
Remember that you have fortitude.
Remember that you have friends.
Remember that you have the
magnificent authorization
of celestial entitlement.
Take good care of yourself
this morning
and every morning of 2011.
When the day is done
lay down with gratitude
and
rise up with joy.

Last night New Year's Eve I was home having a quiet evening and then turned on the radio and listened to some nice music. I danced all over my apt feeling that same joy. And you all were there! It doesn't matter that I have no idea what you ladies look like, but we were all there dancing and having a great time. That fantasy gives me so much hope that we all share in happy moments despite dealing with the harsh reality of abuse issues.
I have made a conscience promise to keep taking good care of me and I will take you all along in my heart like last evening. Together we can make it and become victories.
