Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

I hope the same for you.
At times it seems like there is no way out.

But there can
be healing.
You didn't say
but have you
participated
in therapy and
if so, was your

bad that now
you feel hopeless,
or you have not
had any kind of
therapy?
If you've had some
and become discouraged,
you may not have been
with someone who was
competent enough or
qualified enough to
support your needs.
If you haven't had any,

going forward.

My therapist knows of my abuse, but not the details. We have discussed making it a goal for this year to talk through it. She said she will give me the tools I need to deal with it. It's such a hard thing to talk about my past. I really like my therapist, I am hopeful, but I'm not going to get too optimistic. I just want to get through one day without panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares and night terrors.
Thank you for your support.

Healing can happen.
Really. It can and
does. It's not easy
but it's worth the
effort.
Take good care.
Yes, I hear you. I have had many days when I thought these same things. I also was abused sexually as a child and have been through more than one abusive relationship. I think these things go hand in hand.
I would imagine if we took a poll on this forum, we would find that just about everyone who is in an abusive relationship also has been through some sort of trauma as a child or a chronic situation that affected them deeply. The thing is, all of this makes perfect sense why you would be experiencing what you are, but does that help knowing that?
One thing I would like you to know is that I felt hopeless at one point, but I am now at a point where I no longer feel that way. It was a gradual day-by-day process of climbing out of and away from accepting abuse as a normal everyday part of my life. I am still climbing up out of a bottomless pit and it takes a long time to see much of the light, except somehow I know it is there. Maybe it comes in dreams--flashes of hope that life can be full of light rather than darkness. All of us have spiritual helpers, I believe, and they show us the light. Some may say this is not true, but for me this is as real as the sun rays streaming in my windows, making the house warm and the plants flower.
I moved in with my husband at 17 to escape abuse, married at 20. Leaving one abusive situation for another. I can say he treats me better than my family.
It does help knowing that I am not alone. That so many victims of child abuse and sexual abuse follow an abusive pattern. I am sad for them, but it does help to know that other people understand me and it gives me hope that some may even eventually lead a normal life.
