Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

Today, July 5th, is my personal Independence Day.
Nine years ago this evening I told my then-husband
I was filing for divorce.
It was really hard to do, that day. I still feel
nauseated thinking about it.
Nine years later, in the evening hours of
July 5th (just a few minutes ago, actually),
I saw a show on television. It wasn't just
any show. It was MY show. It wasn't
"perfect" but frankly, looking back to the
year when I considered suicide, well. . . . . .
frankly, it's simply nothing short of miraculous.
The afternoon of July 5th, 2002, I considered
postponing what I had in mind to do. I was
driving home from work, feeling sick at the
thought. And when I imagined just letting it
go and making the announcement another day,
relief flooded over me.
But I knew, if I backed off and put off the deed
for another day, another week, month, year. . .
I would still have to do it, and would have tossed
off another day, week, month and year. So, I
gathered myself, ignored my nausea and did the
only thing left to do. . . . . reclaim my life.
JFK said, we do these things (these challenging
things, like shooting for a walk on the moon). . .
NOT because they are easy, but BECAUSE
they are hard.
Shoot for the moon. Even if you fall short,
you'll have gotten yourself one exciting ride.

Your ability to walk through the mire, and go directly to the point, has saved lives. I feel sure of that.
