Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Hurricane Earl travelled up the East Coast of the U.S. today
and may continue to cause trouble on the Massachusetts shoreline,
a traditional holiday destination.
When I was in my abusive marriage, every long holiday weekend
was a potential emotional hurricane. I've talked about this before,
how what should have been the opportunity for rest, recreation and
maybe fun and fulfillment ---- I was always caught off guard when
this opportunity turned into an occasion of pain and sadness.
When this abuse was going on, I had almost no one to whom I
could turn. A handful of years in, I did have a close friend,
which helped.
Now that those years are behind me and I'm on my own, I often
work on long holiday weekends. I work because my clients often
need more help at these times, than usual ---- and I get that! I
know I did. I'm happy to be able to be there now for
those who need support.
The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence fought for years
to get funding to staff the hot line and shelters 24/7. The advocates
to get that done waged a relentless battle and finally, just recently, won.
This is so incredibly important.
