Leap Year Day is the way we keep the calendar aligned with the solar cycle.
Without it, the seasons a we know them, along with special times and anniversaries, would slide along and occur later, later and later. Or earlier?
In any case, the addition of one day to the calendar every four years, keeps that from happening.
So, in essence, Leap Year Day is a day of adjustment. Its a kind of oddity that keeps the rest of the year normal.
Dont most of us have something about us thats a little bit odd, when the rest of our personality is totally normal? Is that little piece of us like February 29th? Is it something that allows us to keep ourselves on track in all the other areas of our life?
Or maybe Leap Year is a time to take a deep breath and break out of the ordinary routine, a time to take a leap into the unknown, a step beyond the boundary of our known world or our comfort zone.
Maybe Leap Year Day is a time to begin something new or alternatively, to take care of something old, something which youve been putting off. That something might be a thing that scares you or which you find unpleasant. Or it might be something youve been wanting or meaning to do, something unfamiliar, something that might be exciting.
What if Leap Year Day or Leap Year itself, is a time to make an adjustment, as our calendar is adjusted by the addition of the extra day. . . . or the day thats desperately needed if were to stay on course?

Someone at work mentioned the same thing and she said, "it's gotta be the Leap Year syndrome."
Hmm never thought of that, but after introspection, I do feel better and I believe this year will be good for many of us. At least that's my gut feeling.
And that gut instinct is good enough for me. :)
