Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I tried EMDR therapy and never had medication and I feel very peaceful now! I was already having person centred counselling and had it along side the EMDR.
I now don't have any therapies or counselling and I feel completely different. Medication isn't always the only way and if your worried and would rather not then do as I did and ask your GP if you Could go down the alternative route.
Are you referring to amitriptyline? If so, years ago my dr prescribed it (also known as elavil) at the same dosage as you were to take before bed to help me get better sleep & reduce pain. The theory is that when we don't get good refreshing sleep, our pain and stress levels rise. It was explained to me at the time that it would be given in higher dosages if it were being used as an antidepressant. Of course I'm not a dr & things could have changed since then, so you might want to talk to her further & explain your concerns about taking it and ask her to further explain her reasons for prescribing.
Sometimes meds can help for the short term. But you might also want to talk w/your counselor about it as well.
Sending you big healing hugs....
