It gets better!

Some nights when I read posts of other members, I can’t help but get upset.  I read about so little expectations for the future.  So many people post about feeling helpless, hopeless and not believing things will get better. 

Whether you are a direct victim, or know someone who is the victim, I am here to say..things get better!

I was once a happy and confident young woman.  I believed (actually, I KNEW) I was smart, had confidence, was funny and thrived on the friendships I developed.  After I met my ex all that changed.  I hated myself.  I pushed my friends and family away because I never felt good enough.  I grew anxious all the time and secluded myself from everyone so I didn’t have to answer why I chose to alienate myself.  My confidence I once had for myself diminished.  I never talked highly of myself and my self-talk was demoralizing.  I began to believe all the hateful things my ex told me.

I went through all that. I hated myself.  Wanted to die.  And here I am saying..IT GETS BETTER.  I never felt worthy of love.  I hit a low after I ended things with my ex.  I thought he loved me and I couldn’t love myself.  He made it apparent that no one else would be able to love me. 

A little over a year since I was finally able to end things indefinitely and I am in such a better place.  My daughter and I have been so blessed to have such an amazing man enter our lives.  Not only has he accepted my daughter as his own, but he has accepted me for my flaws and all.  He has been my strongest support in every aspect of life.   Without even trying, he has brought me back to life.  I laugh and smile every day now.  For the days when I struggle with my ex (usually during drop offs and pick ups for our daughter), I think of where I was with him and where I am currently.  I never would have pictured myself as happy as I am.  I never would have thought I would have been strong enough to move on.  IT GETS BETTER!
