Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I think talking to him will only make him attack (verbally) you and I really don't think it would do him a bit of good. Did it do any good to talk to your ex?
Whatever you do, MIA, I wish you the best of luck.
I can totally relate to what you've shared.
I had a sibling who attacked my parents.
I tried to protect them from that sibling.
I could not.
You say your brother is loving and caring.
But then you note that there's a pattern
of abusive behavior.
People who consistently abuse
aren't loving or caring.
They are a danger to others.
The best you can do with him, I think, is to try to let his cruelty slide right off you. I know it's hard. I'm not prepared to cut off all contact with my family, for a bunch of reasons, so the only other way to deal with it is to try to ignore it. Don't show him that he's getting to you.
In your brother's case, imo not standing up to him, would be sending him the signal that what he does to you as well as his ex, is acceptable. As long as you feel safe doing so, i would say address his abuse every time you see or experience it.
And yes it is your business. When he chose to abuse you it became your business.
I talked with a very close friend last night and I will be looking into therapy again. There are a lot of things I can change here, and I am starting now.
