Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I want out, I have been married a very long time to an abusive alcoholic.But as soon as I decide that's what I want ,fear just stops me in my tracts.You know the fear of having no money, how do I live,how do I support my children.How will they feel?We have been apart before and my youngest was so miserable it broke my heart.I feel there is no way out .You see he is a controlling abusive husband, I have no accounts with him he controls all of the money and I get a small allowance.He is a good provider for our family and I feel so worthless~well he's told me that so many times I believe it.I feel like maybe the children would need him more because I can't provide for them.He can, and every one knows that.Also I'm so afraid to let him have my little one because she isn't old enough to be able to tell when her Father is drunk.Also he drives drunk and the thought of him driving around with her and maybe being mean to her while he is drunk.I just cannot stand the thought.When we where apart before we where going through a divorce and the courts don't care if a parent is an alcoholic.It is just not even an issue in divorce.I could see that me and the children where going to lose everything.So these are just some of the things that stop me when I decide I need to get away from him I am just too afraid to do it.Fear is my weakness it keeps me hostage to a terrible marriage to an abusive man.By the way he treats the children differently than he does me he is very much kinder to them.Thank the Lord!Does anyone have any advise on getting passed the fear?
In most places, you'd be able to sue him for spousal maintenance/alimony of some sort and he would also need to pay some money for the children. In a divorce, as soon as you have children together, your contribution to the household is seen as being equal, making your entitlement to assets at least 50%. You'd also be entitled to custody of your daughter since he's an alcoholic and the courts DO take those things into account in children's matters.
You can probably get a part-time job of some sort in time to help out with money too.
Contact your local women's refuge to find out what resources are available in your area and to find out some of your options for assistance. If people tell you there's no help available or that you cant do something, always seek a second opinion.
