Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I remember thinking "WTF just happened?" after arguments, and I'm pretty sure if you'd been watching me, you'd have seen me do that cartoon character head shake like they do after they've had an anvil land on it.
Just remember - don't even bother trying to make sense of what they say. It WON'T make sense, and they DON'T WANT IT TO.
They want to leave you reeling and too confused to stand up for yourself. My ex was the master of the "Shout a totally illogical lie" technique, so I never knew whether to address the shouting, the nonsense, or the fact that he was obviously lying. It really didn't matter which I started with - I'd call him on one, he'd get away with the other two. Maddening.
Just pretend you're talking to your elderly great aunt Norah who has alzheimers. Nod, smile, and say "Well that's nice." Then when they are gone, write that crap down on your index cards and get back to work on your exit plan!
Living with someone like you described is so very tiring - it's like you don't know which way to turn, because there's always some new, contrived nonsense heading at you! And of course, it's your fault that it's even there...
