I have dealt with abuse for many years. My mom just won't stop. The other day I drove around the car and I was trying to start it but wasn't doing it right so she swatted my Hand. She constantly screamed (raised her voice and got on to me) the entire ride. She got on to me when I was stopping to slow or made a mistake. It was not fun. Then Wednesday me and her tried to fix my costume (It's a little shorter). The next day I tried explaining that to her and she said , fine. Wear that however you slutty well please. How much longer do I have to deal with this?

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I honestly dont know how long this will last for you. With my own mother I learned to stay away from hr as often as possible. I dont even recall a time she rode with me while i drove. Sorry i am not more help but hang in there.

Well, if you choose to maintain contact with her, then know that she has no right to say such hurtful things about you or to you. And in doing so, she reveals more about who she is than who you are - her words do not need to affect your reality, although applying that consistantly with one you love can be exhausting. Did you have fun, aside from her?

Do you have family apart from your parents who you could go and stay with? Or friends?

I know you are young, so it's got to be hard to get completely away and live on your own yet, but... at least if there was someone else, you wouldn't have to be around her horrible behaviour all the time.

then go to the school
nurse or guidance counselor
or any other adult in school
with whom you feel comfortable.

Also. . . . call this number:

It's your state's social services.
Tell them everything your
mother does and
ask for their help.

You are entitled to live
a life without ANYONE
abusing you.

Please reach out
to someone you
trust at school,
and/or call that number.

the roof of an abuser
is living a healthy life.

Even if she's not abusing
your siblings, they're watching
and witnessing and learning
how to either, abuse or to
be abused.

What happens If I call the number? And the thought of calling them gives me butterflies. I don't want them to take my mom away. My family will hate me if I do

Every number I have called has been very clear on one thing. No one is going to force anything. They're there to help. To inform, to support, and to help. They'll listen to you, give you information about other places that can help more than they can, and tell you what they know. But it's always up to you.

Now I don't know for sure - your situation is very different than mine - but that's been my experience.

Really? Why do I have to live with this? This is not how I wanted to remember my childhood. Right now I am thinking back on all the times she's hit me. Is that normal to think about it? I remember one time we were fighting I started cowering because I didn't want her to hit me. She told me I was being stupid and to stop it. Did I do something wrong to deserve this?

So far this week no conflicts but that worries me and confuses me. It makes me think things are over but when I say that we end up in a fight. Praying that this is over... Or at least for now.

You shouldn't have to live with this
and you did NOTHING to deserve it.

Most important of all,
a week without crises
doesn't mean that the
abuse is over.

While you're still seventeen
and considered to be LEGALLY
a child, this is the BEST moment
to get social services involved to
help PROTECT you. After eighteen,
it get more complicated to get help.

I hope you'll reach out NOW,
to get help for yourself.
