Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
My sister has two kids (Bryce who is 9 and Leanna who is 6). She married this guy two years ago so that her house would look like a "stable family" and the children's father could not get custody of them. Two weeks ago her new husband (Randall) hit her so hard out of rage that her face was unrecognizeable. She has had two surgeries and 17 stitches to heal her face up to this point. My concern is that she has dropped the restraining order and is allowing him to return to the house. I understand this is common for people who have only been abused one time, but I am extremely worried for the safety of my niece and nephew. They both witnessed the attack and hid because they were scared. I am very afraid that if she returns to him, this could happen again some day except with the children. Does anyone have any suggestions what I might be able to do to help these kids out? I love them more than anything in the whole world and I cannot just sit by and wait for them to get hurt. Do I have the right to contact child protective services at this time?
Ask her to reverse the situation and pretend it was you in the situation, ask her what she would advise you to do.
If he is not the father of her children, she has no ties to him. Their are plenty of good men in the world .
Her children are so young, they deserve happiness, ask them (discretely) to draw pictures of what it is like living with the both of them, you might be surprised by what those pictures actually look like.
I was in a horrible marriage, and a picture that my young son drew at childcare when he was 4 broke my heart, he drew a picture of myself and his two brothers and himself standing in the sunshine, and his father was a black scarey figure in the background, those were his innocent feelings. Try that, and give the pictures to your sister
to help your sister escape and recover.

then all you can do is tell her.

then call protective services for the children!!!!!
