I know that the Holidays are a stressful time for most of us, and it's a real shame, because they shouldn't need to be. And they don't have to be. Further, I know that a holiday I spent with the good people I've met here would be a good one, so if I may, a bit of imagination escapism. Let me set the scene:

We need a fireplace. A big, stone hearth - solid and reasuuring, with a large, luxurious fire blazing merrily away. I see warm, rich wood floors with deep, lush rugs scattered about. A gentle snow falls outside - big, fluffy, friendly flakes, but it's not that cold. Just chilly enough to make you glad to come inside. A grand piano sits in one corner of the room, several large couches here and there. In another, a sturdy oak table is heaped high with holiday treats. There's a soft music floating through the air, and everything has just the perfect amount of christmas cheer and decoration. Here stands a stately christmas tree, twinkling with light and piled high with gifts. There, a gleaming menorah waits. Large, comfortable couches and chairs dot the room, and candles give a golden glow to everything. I think I'd be playing the piano, sipping steaming cider while I wait for friends to join me. I'll put a tv just around the corner, playing a collection of classic holiday movies, where my kids play and pull out a ton of toys - that's ok, they're nearby, but taking care of themselves.

It may seem silly, but I'd like to welcome you all to join me in this place this season. Come in, make yourself comfortable, rearrange the furniture if you like - be at peace. Bring your kids if you like! If you find yourself needing it, it's here. And you are wanted here, welcomed here. It wouldn't be quite the same without you.
