Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.

My sister just shared this with me and I'm not sure how to respond.
My sister says that her WHOLE LIFE FROM CHILDHOOD THROUGH ADULTHOOD she has felt unenthused. Nothing has excited her and from childhood she learned how to fake it. She plays the role of whatever situation she finds herself in, but the truth is that she does not enjoy life. She says that she doesn't feel deep love for anyone and when our mother died, she felt more annoyed than sad. At parties or weddings she acts happy but doesn't feel it. At funerals she acts sad but doesn't feel it. She feels sort of numb every day and just goes through the motions.
I never would have guessed that this is true becausse she acts appropriately depending on the situation. She appears to be kind and caring, but she claims that she really doesn't feel any deep emotion for anyone.
I don't know what to make of this!

2 possibilities, one is a form of depression, but only technically, the other is something called Asperger's Disease

Depression, or even Narcissistic?

I think Jimmy Squirel has the correct diagnosis: Asperger Syndrome is a form of high-functioning autism. It is hard for those of us with feelings and emotions to not imagine having them...

And I forgot to mention that the only time my sister says she feels content is when she spends time alone reading or thinking.

I would talk with a therapist or dr about this. Nobody can diagnose on a computer.

If her background is abusive it can be survival instinct, or it can mean something far worse. I am not going to say it here though. Ask a professional seriously.

I would gently encourage her to seek a therapist or talk with her doctor. Just keep loving her.
