Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
So my boyfriend is having a hard time figuring out a gift to get me. It's mostly because I never really want for anything. I mean I will occasionally want something but then my "programming" kicks in and says "no that's selfish. I don't need that."
It's hard working past that when someone is asking you what you want. Not what you need. But what do I want. What is something that I would enjoy having that doesn't necessarily serve a utilitarian purpose.
This is so hard for me. It's hard to search for things I want, acknowledge that I want it, and then tell him I want it. I could ask for pens and paper and art supplies. But those aren't the sort of things he's talking about. He wants to get me something special. Something I want, not need.
Maybe today since I'm feeling better it will be easier to find things I like and want.

Regarding the art supplies. . . .
If art supplies would provide
your heart a buzz. . . . then
it doesn't matter what your
brother is "talking about,"
or envisions giving as a
gift. All that matters is what
would make YOU happiest.
