Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Unfortunately you will continue to feel this way as long as you are with her. The first step to solving a problem is to admit you have one, if your wife can not admit she is abusive then it is because she doesn't believe it, my stbx never admitted to being emotionally abusive, danced around it and tried to act like he understood how I felt but NEVER admitted to it. Sure enough, he went from wanting to buy a book on emotional abuse (when he thought I was leaving) to not ever bringing it up again when he realized I was done.
According to my therapist (and Illene has said the same thing), an emotionally abusive person has to have individual counseling specializing in emotional abuse for a minimum of 1 year to 18 months before ever being cleared to have couples counseling for any real chance of success. I didn't want to believe it but it is true. I wish things were different for you.
No one should feel the way you do because of how you are treated by your spouse. That is not healthy for you or your children. You deserve so much better!!!!!
Wishing you all the very best! Sending lots of strength and encouragement!!!
hearing her say that helps remind me that I am not going crazy, but that doesn't mean the hurtful things she says to me are much easier to take.
I don't know what you expect to gain if she admits she is abusive. Even if she admit it, she will unlikely change her behavior, and if she does it will never be a complete turnaround, and any progress she makes will be slow.
hang in there. You are worth it.
