Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
When you say someone can do a ceremony as a means of expression--do you mean that it should be a public ceremony, or can it be private and just for ourselves?
Another benefit of the expression that I have done on this board, is that I realize that others have gone through similar things and it helps me to cement my interpretation of reality because it is confirmed by others who have the same experiences.
can be solely for oneself, or
together with one or a few
special people, or together
with as many as you want.
There are no "shoulds" or
"have to's" when it comes
to emotional processing
and healing.
"One part of the abuse is to separate us from our reality, from our story, from our own indisputable
truth".
So incredibly accurate! Losing yourself feels like death, it's one precious thing we own ~ our identity, what makes us unique. I will never let anyone try to take that away again.
Thank you!
And since I always ask posters
to document where they found
information so the author or
publisher can get appropriate
credit, the steps of emotional
processing that I laid out:
Assessing
Identification
Acknowledgement
Acceptance
Accessing
Experiencing
Excavating
Exploration
Expression
Exhalation
Advancing
are my codification
of emotional processing.
They're what I've come
to understand in the work
I do . . . . . . . what I've done for
myself and now use professionally.
Participating on a forum like this
helps a survivor move through
many of the steps I believe are
important to effectively move
through our emotional experience.
