Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
My 72 pound son was choked by his dad in a restaurant. Over the next two weeks, he was slapped hard enough to leave a handprint, pushed on the floor and had his face stepped on, as well as punched by his dad's girlfriend's son who is 6 ft tall and allowed to pick on him. Oh, and he has heart isses in which the dad claims is fake. And CPS says no abuse??? Police haven't done anything. It took enormous courage for him to speak out, and the system does nothing. I'm sick of the cavalier attitude of society - what the heck constitutes abuse?????

Before my kids and I went through this, I believed - like most people, I think - that all it took was one phone call or report of abuse to get a child to safety. Now that we have experience with the system I know better.
My ex abused our kids much the same way your ex abused your son. That is to say, extreme physical abuse. He does not deny it and has admitted it in court. Still despite several police reports, three investigations by CPS, years of ongoing therapy, and now a long and drawn out custody battle in our divorce... I STILL cannot get the kids safely away from him 100%. It boggles my mind. Every professional we encounter from the police to the judges to the social workers is all talk about how important fathers are and maybe he can be helped. I want to scream.
I am sorry you are running into this same nightmare. I just wanted you to know you aren't crazy and you're not alone. The system is bizarre and does not work to protect children.
