Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I did the intake by phone yesterday so my girls can start therapy at crisis intervention. The therapist was refreshingly straight forward, even if it did sing just a little to hear her initial assessment. Basically she told me that they will gladly see the girls once a week, but the real treatment chimes between sessions and that as long as they are in the environment there is very little she, or any therapist, can do to"fix" things. Regarding the younger child's behavioral issues, she said basically they can't fight DNA and it sounds as if there is something of a genetic component. Anyway, all stuff I knew really, but it was nice not to have a therapist sugar coat things just to spare my feelings for a change. Sounds silly I know, but it was a kick in the ass I needed. Just thought I'd share that with anyone wavering because they don't want to uproot kids.
One other good thing that will come out of this is you can use her assessment (specifically done after she's met w/the kids) when it comes to determining custody and visitation (i.e. supervised, unsupervised and frequency).
