Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Hi I haven't been on here for a while because me and my BF have been slowly parting ways. I changed and stopped pandering to him and also started sticking up for myself. The thing is yesterday my parents came to visit and gave me a beautiful ring for my birthday. He came over later and all he could say was horrible things about them like 'they are just sucking up to you'. 'Are you going to wear the ring all day and pretend your mother loves you?' I was shocked and quite horrified. I'd never seen this side of him so bad before. I'm planning on totally ending things now. I think he sees my parents as a threat to his control over me. I don't think he ever really loved me now but was just totally using me.
I'm glad that you're seeing him with clearer lenses.
And yes. . . . . he would certainly see anyone who's treating you better than he is (which would be just about everyone), as a threat to his control over you. He knows that at some point you might be able to calculate the difference between being treated with respect and love. . . . and being abused.
